In a rapidly changing world, education alone is no longer enough. For millions of youth and underserved communities in Bangladesh, the real key to escaping the cycle of poverty lies in skill development—practical, hands-on knowledge that translates into employability, entrepreneurship, and empowerment.
At Serene Planet, we believe skills are power. That’s why we’ve launched targeted training initiatives in both urban and rural areas to help people unlock their potential, generate income, and build a better life.
Poverty is not just a lack of income—it’s a lack of access:
Access to education and training
Access to technology and digital tools
Access to soft skills and communication
Access to opportunities
When someone doesn’t have the right skills, they’re more likely to be trapped in low-wage jobs, face unemployment, or be vulnerable to exploitation. Generational poverty continues when people can’t escape these conditions.
Skill development is a bridge out of this trap.
It equips individuals with the tools to become job-ready, start businesses, or even create opportunities for others. It’s not just personal empowerment—it’s a ripple effect of transformation.
Practical. Inclusive. Locally Rooted.
Our approach is simple but powerful: deliver locally-relevant, future-ready training that meets real-world needs in communities where opportunity is scarce.
Here’s how we’re doing it 👇
In collaboration with local institutions, our computer training programs focus on:
Basic computer operations (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Internet usage & online research
Email, freelancing platforms, and job applications
Graphic design and intro to coding (selected batches)
🎯 Target Audience: School leavers, low-income youth, rural women, and displaced youth
📍 Why it matters: In Chattogram and Hathazari, many youth grow up with little or no access to digital skills, limiting their ability to compete in the job market or pursue higher education. This training closes that gap.
🗣️ What participants say:
“Before this, I had never even touched a computer. Now I help others make CVs and apply for jobs. I feel confident.” – Aklima, 20, Hathazari
Soft skills are often overlooked, but they’re essential for job success, especially in service sectors like tourism, customer support, or even online work.
Our soft skills workshops in Cox’s Bazar focus on:
Communication and body language
Professionalism and workplace behavior
Time management and leadership
Interview skills and resume building
🎯 Target Audience: Youth from fishing communities, climate-affected families, and college students
📍 Why it matters: Many young people from Cox’s Bazar lack exposure to professional settings. This training prepares them for real-world environments and boosts their confidence in interviews and networking.
🗣️ What participants say:
“I always failed interviews because I was too nervous. Now I know how to express myself with confidence.” – Mamun, 22, Cox’s Bazar
In the digital age, being “literate” isn’t enough—digital literacy is survival. From job searches to online learning, it’s the foundation of economic inclusion.
Our digital literacy training includes:
Internet safety and responsible use
Mobile apps for education and productivity
Online job platforms and e-commerce basics
Accessing government services online
🎯 Target Audience: Rural youth, women, and young mothers
📍 Why it matters: In many rural parts of Cox’s Bazar, youth—especially young women—are digitally disconnected. We’re changing that by offering accessible, inclusive, and gender-sensitive digital training.
🗣️ What participants say:
“I didn’t know I could learn anything on YouTube or apply for jobs on Facebook. This opened a new world for me.” – Nasima, 18, Ramu
Let’s break it down clearly:
Before Skills Training | After Skills Training |
---|---|
Limited job prospects | Entry-level job in tech/shop/office |
Nervous in interviews | Confident communication |
Offline, disconnected | Using internet for job search or online courses |
Gender-based barriers | Women-led microbusinesses |
Financial dependency | Earning, saving, supporting families |
Every skill learned leads to better decisions, higher income potential, and stronger self-worth.
