Disaster Management

In a country as climate-vulnerable as Bangladesh, disaster management is not a luxury—it’s a lifeline. At Serene Planet, we empower communities in coastal, flood-prone, and hill-tract regions to prepare, respond, and rebuild with dignity and resilience.

Our approach is local, youth-led, and rooted in sustainability. When a disaster strikes, preparedness saves lives—and we’re helping the next generation lead that change.

Why Disaster Management Matters in Bangladesh

  • Bangladesh is among the top 10 countries most affected by climate-related disasters

  • Cyclones, floods, and landslides disproportionately impact rural and low-income communities

  • Lack of early warning awareness, emergency plans, and community shelters puts lives at risk

  • Children and youth are often excluded from disaster planning, though they are among the most affected

At Serene Planet, we believe young people should be trained, trusted, and supported to lead preparedness efforts in their communities.

Our Core Initiatives

Youth-Led Emergency Response Training

We train school and college students in:

  • Basic first aid & emergency response

  • Early warning signals and evacuation drills

  • How to assist during floods, landslides, or cyclones

We empower youth to become local disaster responders and educators.

Community-Based Risk Mapping

We work with local leaders to:

  • Map vulnerable zones (coastal areas, hill slopes, floodplains)

  • Identify safe shelters and resource points

  • Plan evacuation routes

This grassroots planning ensures no one is left behind during disasters.

Awareness Campaigns & School Drills

We conduct:

  • Public campaigns on climate safety and hygiene during disasters

  • Mock drills in schools and madrasas

  • Poster competitions and interactive workshops on resilience

These activities build a culture of safety from an early age.

Post-Disaster Recovery Support

In partnership with local organizations, we:

  • Provide emergency kits and water purification supplies

  • Assist in restoring access to education after floods

  • Mobilize youth volunteers for cleanup and reconstruction

Our focus is on long-term recovery, not just immediate relief.

Our Approach to Resilience

We train and mobilize local youth to lead change within their own communities.

Our disaster work is deeply connected to our climate action goals, with emphasis on nature-based solutions and sustainability.

We use local languages, stories, and practices to teach resilience in ways that feel familiar and actionable.
